So something new has been happening to me while i sleep... It started a few months ago, and now happens EVERY night.

I sleep with my TV on, or my Radio on at night.. For the past few months now, Whatever is on the TV or Radio works its way into my dreams. For example i was taking a nap while my boyfriend was watching tv, and in my dream i heard some guy saying "I would have loved to stay, but the crew said it was to bad of a storm, so they had to come rescue me" in my dream he was standing next to ocean with the waves up to his hips. ...When i woke up i told my boyfriend and he goes "Thats crazy, I was watching Survivor Man, and they had dropped him in the ocean... But a tropical storm blew in and they had to go rescue him"... "and he said the EXACT SAME THING the guy said in your dream"...

Now thats just an example, but something either a song, or whats on tv, now works its way into my dreams.... Whats happening? and Why would it start now? .. .. ANY feedback would be much appriciated!

Nothing strange here. Though your concious mind is asleep, your dreaming mind is receiving everything that comes through your ears and incorporating it in your dreams. Surgeons have become aware that whatever they say while a patient is under anesthesia registers in the patient's mind; and that person's recovery may be impacted by any negative remarks they make.

The same thing can happen with touch, smell and the other senses. What we call the "unconcious mind" is in fact concious 24/7. It's just that we're usually unconcious of it.

Many years ago, a friend of mine who owned a police radio fell asleep with it turned on, and ended up in a full-blown nightmare involving several cops chasing him about a "stolen auto". The only way to stop this is to turn th stuff off, or nap in a room other than the one where your boyfriend is watching TV.

The only thing i'm wondering is, i've slept with my TV or Radio pretty much my whole life.. Why is it just lately that i'm dreamin this way? Any ideas?

There could be many reasons. Perhaps BF has the volume set higher than you did, perhaps for some reason you're spending more time in dreaming sleep, or perhaps these dreams want to be remembered. (Believe me, that happens.) Take a look at your life and any stressors (good or bad) you've been under. Have things changed since the days you started remembering dreams like this?

My own experience is that it's not impossible your dreaming mind has decided, "If I have to listen to this stuff, so does she!" (Like I said above, don't be fooled by that "Unconcious Mind" phrase. "Unconcious" refers to us, not it.)

By the way, you say the one dream you mentioned occurred during a nap. I've found this "outside interference" is most common when I've dozed off in a chair, having not really intended to fall asleep. In my friend's case, his radio was in the basement but he'd hooked up an auxiliary speaker in his bedroom and, having gone up there in mid afternoon for some reason, he stretched out on the bed, intending just to rest awhile, and fell asleep.

That's why, whenever I want to nap, I go to the bedroom, undress, and get in bed just as though it was nightime. Needless to say, there's no police radio speaker.

It may be off the subject, but some police wives (and, these days, husbands) have found they can wake up a spouse who can sleep through the loudest alarm simply by saying "Scout 84" or whatever his/her unit number is.
